My friend lent me her copy of The Jaguar that Roams the Mind by Robert Tindall on Sunday to read by today in order to help her with a paper on it. It’s a really fascinating read about an ethnobotanist who goes on a journey to the Amazon to find this vine called the vine of the spirits which is a type of hallucinogen that allows him to go into his inner self. It also has to do with shamanism and his different experiences with spirits and shamans. If you’re interested in shamanism, it’s a good book to consider.

Lizzie’s book is now available on Amazon for $10. Get it!
Full Disclosure: Lizzie is one of my super awesome cousins.
“Leaving Mundania tells the story of adults who put on costumes, develop personas, and interact with other characters over the course of hours or days as part of a larp, or live action roleplaying game. A larp is a hybrid of games like Dungeons & Dragons, historical reenactment, fandom, and good old fashioned pretend; it’s well-organized make believe for grownups. This diverse subculture is just beginning to enter the mainstream imagination in America.
In the book, I examine the hobby from a variety of angles, from its history in the pageantry of Tudor England to its present as a training tool for the US military. I profile a diverse range of larpers, from a dad who ran his kids through nightly D & D mods with morals instead of reading them bedtime stories, to a police detective terrified his office will discover his hobby. Along the way, I duel foes with foam-padded weapons, let the demon Cthulhu destroy my parents’ beach house, and survive an existential awakening brought on by Scandinavia’s avant-garde larp scene.”(from http://elizabethrstark.com/)
I have had this book on my amazon wishlist for months, I should just buy it already.

Welcome to Bizarro fiction, it somehow managed to become a thing with a name. I don’t think people really do this a whole lot any more? I seem to recall it mostly being popular in like 2007/2008. But then again, maybe I just stopped being entertained by it around then and no longer pay much attention to it XD
I am sort of amazed at all the comments on this that just couldn’t believe a book like this was ever published/is a real thing. It’s like, have you really ever read books? I mean, I would be surprised to find this on display at the book store, but it just seems silly to be unable to believe that books can’t be completely ridiculous if they want to be too.
